____ equation:

Answer

Wavelength of a standing wave (closed pipes) equation:
Wavelength of a standing wave (closed pipes) equation:
Note: As a shortcut, for strings attached at both ends, the number of antinodes present will tell you which harmonic it is.
Note: As a shortcut, for open pipes, the number of nodes present will tell you which harmonic it is.
Note: Unlike strings and open pipes, one cannot simply count the number of nodes or antinodes to determine the harmonic of the wave in closed pipes. Therefore, when presented with a closed pipe, make sure to actually count the number of quarter-wavelengths contained in the pipe to determine the harmonic.
