If a medical test says someone does not have a disease, but the person actually does, this is a type 2 error.
Type 2 error = false negative
These errors draw upon reality of the situation (y-axis) vs our perceived conclusion (x-axis).
Type 1: We draw a positive perceived conclusion to a negative reality, we have now rejected the null hypothesis incorrectly: because null was true.
Type 2: We draw a negative perceived conclusion to a positive reality, we have now accepted the null hypothesis incorrectly: because null was false.
