Question

Give an example to illustrate you understand the difference between displacement and distance.
Example: ____.

Answer

Give an example to illustrate you understand the difference between displacement and distance.
Example: If a man walks from Point A to Point B, his distance traveled can be measured by the number of steps that he takes. His displacement is his final position relative to his starting point, meaning the net distance traveled. If Point B is 10 meters to the right of Point A, the man's displacement is 10 meters in the rightward direction. However, the distance is unknown, because he may have taken path X, Y, or Z (or any other possible path). Notice that the magnitudes of the man's displacement and distance are not necessarily equal.
